It has been a rainy morning forChennai, with showers drenching several parts of the state capital since morning. According to weathermen, thick clouding was seen engulfing the region during the early morning hours, with rains appearing soon thereafter. It has been raining over the city since 8 am.
At present also, several parts have been reporting light rains or drizzle. Sky continues to be overcast, with which light rains and drizzle at regular intervals are most likely to continue over Chennai today.
These rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation is over southwest Bay of Bengal, off South Tamil Nadu coast. A Trough is also extending from Coastal Tamil Nadu to South Sri Lanka, which is further enhancing the rains.
Although rains would reduce by tomorrow but isolated rains and thundery activity cannot be ruled out over Chennai. Weather activity would be more over southern parts of the state. But weather over Chennai would not go completely dry during the week as cloudy weather with isolated rains may continue.
Weathermen predict that rains may pick up pace around weekend between December 29 - 31. However, during this time also heavy rains are not expected and would be patchy and light in nature. Few short of intense sells cannot be ruled out.
