Chennai rains had remained light in nature since the beginning of the month of October itself. Before that, rainfall activity had remained on the backseat with the city witnessing dry weather conditions for about ten days or so.

However, weather conditions have taken a U turn and the city of Chennai did record a few good spells of rains wherein 25 mm of rainfall was recorded between 8:30 am yesterday and 8:30 am today at the Nungambakkam observatory. In fact, Minambakkam also saw 12 mm of rains.

Other parts of Tamil Nadu saw hefty rainfall activity with 51 mm of rains in Parangipettai 51 mm, Karaikal 58 mm, Atiramapattinam 58 mm, Thanjavur 30 mm, Salem 24 mm, Coimbatore 15 mm, Ooty 24 mm, and Madurai 7 mm.

These rainfall activities have been attributed to the presence of a Cyclonic Circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu Coast.

Now, also, rainfall activity is expected to continue over the city of Chennai and adjoining cities in the next 24 hours and rains will remain moderate to heavy in nature. Meanwhile, rainfall may reduce after 24 hours, but on and off showers will continue over the city of Chennai.
