Chennai rains have refused to back seat as they continue to drench the city for the last few days now. In fact, the month gone by was the rainiest September in the last one decade. During the last 24 hours also, Chennai has recorded moderate showers to the tune 10 mm.
According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to a fresh trough which has developed along the Coastal Tamil Nadu. Further, this feeble trough is likely to persist over the region for the next few days.
Hence, on and off scattered showers will continue over Chennai in the coming days, with few good showers around October 4 and October 5. However, rains will be patchy in nature.
As we enter into October, entire Tamil Nadu including Chennai is all set to witness tremendous increase in the intensity of rains. This month will also mark the commencement of the Northeast Monsoon, which span from October till December.
Unlike Southwest Monsoon, this season does not have official date of commencement. Usually, the season makes an onset over the region around second or third week of October.
Tamil Nadu records majority of its annual rainfall during this season, wherein Chennai receives more than 60% of its rainfall.
November is the rainiest month for the Chennai, followed by October and December.
