Chennai rains continued for the third consecutive day on Monday, however, intensity of showers were light only. During the last 24 hours, the city has recorded 7 mm of rain.
Moreover, these rains are likely to continue for another 24 hours but will start reducing thereafter.
According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu Coast.
However, the system has moved further westwards and now can be seen over Coastal Kerala. With the system moving far away, intensity of rains will decrease but light activity will continue for another 24 hours.
Thereafter, rains are likely to back seat but subdued activity cannot be ruled out on account of the easterly and north-easterly winds.
As we proceed further, a low pressure area is also seen brewing in Bay of Bengal. But the system is likely to track northwestwards, which will lead to dry weather conditions as it will take away all the moisture.
Northeast Monsoon has finally made an onset over the region, though a delayed one. From October 1 till October 31, actual rainfall received over the city of Chennai is 29.4 mm whereas normal rainfall for this time period is 252.7 mm.
