The city of Chennai in the beginning of the month of December saw a massive deluge due to Cyclone Michaung. In fact, the capital city of Tamil Nadu witnessed over 500 mm of rainfall in a span of two days between December 4 and 5, resulting in inundation.
However, after that city has seen light rains only and showers have been about 15-20 mm in total in the past two weeks. Moreover, while the southern half of the state of Tamil Nadu recorded intense rains resulting in flooding and inundation during the weekend, Chennai along with its other northern countreparts did not see any significant rains.
The Cyclonic Circulation which deluged the southern parts has been far off, and Chennai is lies in the northernmost region of Tamil Nadu. For the next ten days or so, Chennai rains will remain on the lower side. As it is, during the second half of December, the Northeast monsoon slows down.
