Chennai continued to witness rains for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, however with reduced intensity. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, the capital city recorded 6.9 mm of rain.
With this, Chennai has witnessed 96.5 mm of rain against the monthly average rainfall of 55.3 mm.
With Southwest Monsoon remaining active, rain activity is likely to continue for next 48 hours. According to Skymet Weather, Monsoon current is active over South Peninsula at present, which will continue giving light to moderate scattered rain and thundershowers over the city for next 2 days.
Thereafter, intensity of rains is likely to reduce as weather models are indicating towards weakening of Monsoon surge. However, this is completely normal as waxing and waning of Monsoon rains keep taking place at regular intervals.
The ongoing spell of rain has paved way for comfortable weather conditions, however, increased humidity is still a cause of concern.
Being a rain shadow area, entire Tamil Nadu including Chennai do not get much rains during the four-month long season that spans from June to September.
