Chennai rains had seen a good end of October wherein the rainfall activity had even spilled over to November. Moreover, from October 28 to November 6 was the time when rainfall had occurred in the city of Chennai.
However, since November 8, the weather over Chennai has remained dry. These rains took a backseat due to the formation of a Cyclonic storm called Gaja, in Bay of Bengal. The cyclone has cut off the flow of northeasterly winds over the state of Tamil Nadu.
Now, Cyclonic Storm Gaja is moving towards south coast of Tamil Nadu. Due to this weather system, rainfall activities are expected to commence over Chennai by tonight and gradually, the intensity of these showers is expected to see an increase.
In fact, now we expect moderate rains to occur over the city of Chennai by tomorrow. In fact, rains will not take a backseat thereafter, and on and off rains will continue. These rainfall activities will be light to moderate in nature.
After the movement of this cyclone, another Low-Pressure Area is expected to develop over Southeast Bay of Bengal, which will travel towards Tamil Nadu. Therefore, Chennai may receive another good spell of rain on November 20 and 21. Therefore, it is safe to say, that rainy days are ahead for the city of Chennai.
