Chennai rains to begin, comfortable weather ahead

The Gateway to South India, Chennai had been observing sultry weather conditions since past few days. However on and off rains have been making appearances over the region since the start of the month.

The last 24 hours were of not much difference over the region and in a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Meenambakkam Observatory in Chennai observed a mere 1 mm of rains, while Nungambakkam Observatory remained rain free.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Northeast Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast. From this system, a trough is also extending up to Tamil Nadu Coast. Thus, under the influence of these weather systems, moderate spells of rain are likely to commence over the city that will continue for 2 to 3 days.

Apart from Chennai, cities such as Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Dharmapuri, Thiruvalur, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore will also witness Monsoon rains.

The weather will be comfortable due to rains, with day maximum settling around 29-30 degrees and minimum temperatures near 24-25 degrees.

As on September 23, the state of Tamil Nadu is rain surplus by 31 percent and Chennai by 6 percent. Until date, Chennai has recorded a good of 92.4 mm of rainfall as against its monthly average of 147.7 mm.
