Chennai rains to be back again, good showers expected

December 20, 2017 6:50 PM |

Chennai RainsChennai weather has remained dry for the past two weeks. In fact, there has not been any rainfall activity observed over the city during this time. The last time the city had recorded heavy showers was during the time of Cyclone Ockhi.

However, after Ockhi, no significant weather system was headed Chennai’s way, thus, the city has remained as dry as it could get. Now, Chennai rains are all set to be back after a break and these rains are expected to stay for a while.

The capital city of Tamil Nadu is expected to witness rains starting December 21. The rainfall activity is likely to remain on the lighter side tomorrow. However, on December 22, Chennai is expected to witness moderate showers. Thereafter, rainfall activity will also continue on December 23 but will reduce slightly.

These rainfall activities will be attributed to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin region. This weather system will be responsible for accentuating the Northeast Monsoon activity over Chennai as well as other parts of Tamil Nadu.

After December 23, rainfall activity will once again take a backseat over Chennai and the city will observe dry weather. As per weathermen, Chennaiites may witness a dry Christmas only with rains remaining completely on the backseat.
