Chennai and the North Coastal districts failed to witness any pre-Monsoon weather activities this season. Thus, Chennai has been reeling under dry, warm and humid weather conditions for the past many days. However, the interior parts of Tamil Nadu witnessed on and off rains.

Pre-Monsoon activities failed to make an appearance over Chennai, due to the absence of any weather system in the Bay of Bengal.
As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation has developed over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Chennai coast. This weather system is likely to move towards North Coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh Coast.
Therefore, we expect light rain and thundershower activities to commence over Chennai around May 25 or May 26. Chennai rains would be light in nature and would occur in patches. These showers are likely to continue until the end of the month after their commencement. The time of occurrence would be mostly during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
During that time, the maximum temperatures are expected to reduce by 2°C to 3°C over Chennai and adjoining districts such as Puducherry, Cuddalore, and Tiruttani. Thus, relief is in the forecast for Chennai and adjoining regions from the sultry weather. In fact, the sky conditions will also remain cloudy to partly cloudy.
