After a long break, Chennai rains have finally made a comeback on Monday. Parts of the city are already witnessing drizzling and rains are likely to follow soon. However, weathermen predict that rains will be light in nature.
These rains can be attributed to the feeble cyclonic circulation that is seen over South Coastal Tamil Nadu. Southeasterly winds are also feeding moisture over Chennai and nearby areas.
In wake of this, we expect local developments of thunderclouds due to which light rains of short spells may occur in some parts of the city. However, rains will not be continuous and fairly widespread.

Due to this, these showers will not have any impact on the weather conditions. Days will continue to be warm and humid and discomfort level will continue. However, interior parts of Tamil Nadu may receive few good showers on account of the trough running from Madhya Maharashtra to Interior Karnataka.

Weathermen predict that for the next few days isolated light rains are expected over Chennai. However, any spell of significant rains is ruled out.
Being a rain shadow area, Tamil Nadu including Chennai does not record much rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon. However, this season has been little different for the state, which has been recording some exceptional showers this time.
In fact, the cumulative rainfall for Tamil Nadu is excess by 49%, which is the highest in the Southern Peninsular.
