Chennai rains remain deficient in November, December to be better

Chennai rains remained far and few in both the months of October and November. During both these months, the city received deficient rains only. So much so that the city has continued to receive either light or no rain throughout the month of November.

In fact, Chennai did not receive even a round of heavy spell of rains during the month of November. The weather systems that developed in the Bay of Bengal were either not strong enough to give rains over the capital city of Tamil Nadu or had formed far away from Chennai.

With this, the month of November finally ended and that too on a deficient note. So much so that the city was only able to record a mere 50 mm of rainfall in thirty days against its monthly average of 407 mm of rainfall.

The cyclonic storm Nada which formed in the Southwest Bay of Bengal had risen hopes of bringing some rains in the city and it did. While the rains may not have been as intense as was expected. However, the capital city of Chennai recorded a good 39 mm of rain in a mere 24 hours.

All thanks to Cyclone Nada, Chennai finally received heavy showers. The weather system has now weakened into a depression and crossed the Tamil Nadu coast. However, during the next 24 hours, the city is expected to receive light rains.

During the rest of December, Chennai may receive some good spells of rain. While it is hard to say if the city will be able to reach its monthly normal rainfall of 285 mm, it is definitely going to be better than the months of October and November.
