As predicted by Skymet Weather, Chennai rains have reduced significantly during the last 24 hours. The city has been recording good rains since the last few days but on Thursday, it saw patchy rains to the tune of mere 2 mm.
Now, the sky has cleared up and weather is likely to go dry now onwards, at least for the next 3-4 days.
According to Skymet Weather, the rainy spell was due to a trough extending from the depression in west-central Bay of Bengal. However, the system has moved away in north direction and the trough has also become insignificant.
Not only this, the depression is likely to intensify further and as a result, the northeasterly winds are now concentrating around the system.
With this, rains will now take a back seat and mainly dry weather conditions will prevail over North Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
November is the rainiest month for the city, wherein city records 407 mm of rain. So far, the Chennai has received 26.2 mm of rain.
The state capital has not received any major rainfall till now. All thanks to the delayed onset of Northeast Monsoon over the region. In October, city observed only 11.8 mm against its monthly mean of 278.8 mm.
Chennai records more than 60% of its annual rainfall during this three-month long season that spans from October to December.
