Chennai rains have been intense for quite some time now. In fact, the last 48 hours have been quite rainy with the capital city of Tamil Nadu witnessing heavy showers. Before, this dry weather had persisted over Chennai for a day.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Nungambakkam observatory witnessed a whopping 65 mm of rain. Meanwhile, Minambakkam observatory saw 55 mm of rainfall during the same time frame.

However, rains have remained on the backseat and have reduced and have remained light in nature. In fact, in a span of 9 hours between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm today, Minambakkam observatory witnessed 4 mm of rains while no rains were seen at the Nungambakkam observatory.

Presently, the city is witnessing overcast sky conditions. As for the cyclone, it has further moved away from Kerala coast. However, as the moderate winds are still blowing from Bay of Bengal which are pushing moisture towards Chennai and adjoining areas of Coastal Tamil Nadu, light showers may continue over the region.
Thus, much rain is not expected over the city. However, cloud formation is expected to take place due to which on and off short spells of rains will continue over the city.
Rains will once again pick up pace by December 4 night as the low-pressure area which is over Andaman Sea is expected to move towards Tamil Nadu due to which heavy rains will be seen over the region.
