After recording light rains for the last few days, Chennai rains gathered pace on Wednesday and moderate showers were witnessed across the city. One or two good spells were also recorded over few places.
Minambakkam Observatory recorded 16 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, while Nungambakkam Observatory recorded 15 mm of rain.
These rains can be attributed to the trough which was extending from the depression prevailing in the central and southeast Bay of Bengal across Tamil Nadu.
Now, the system is gradually moving away in northwest direction and thus, the trough will now become insignificant. With this, intensity of rains will reduce significantly and only scattered showers could be witnessed till November 3.
Thereafter, weather will go dry once again. According to Skymet Weather, the depression in Bay is likely to intensify further. Due to this, northwesterly winds which were instrumental in giving rains over North Tamil Nadu will now get concentrated around this system, keeping the weather mainly dry.
The Northeast Monsoon will again become subdued over Chennai and we expect no change in the weather conditions for the next one week. Temperatures will once again show rising trend by 2-3 degrees.
This year, the Monsoon had made a delayed onset over the region. All thanks to the Cyclone Kyant which took away all the moisture.
