Chennai rains may see last revival during fag end of Northeast Monsoon

Chennai Rains have been on the backseat throughout the month of December. So much so that the city has probably seen the lowest rains in the month of December since the year 2009. The last two years had seen above normal rains for Chennai in December, however, this year, it has been exactly the opposite.

The December of 2021 has been a drought month for Chennai with hardly any significant rains as such. So far for the month of December, the official observatory which is the Nungambakkam saw 24 mm with the normal being at 178 mm, making it just about 15 percent of the normal rains. Minambakkam has been a shade better at rains around 45 mm until now.

Now, as per weathermen, the fag end of Northeast Monsoon is expected to cause some rains in Chennai. Very light rains will be seen today for the city of Chennai. However, moderate showers may be seen for Chennai on December 30 and 31. These rainfall activities may spill over to January 1 as well.
