Chennai weather has remained hot and humid for quite some time now. So much so that the capital city of Tamil Nadu has been reeling under heatwave conditions. Temperatures have been sky high, making the residents crave for some relief in the form of some rains.
The maximum temperature presently is settling at a whopping 40.5 degrees which happens to be three degrees above the normal levels. Not only this, the minimum temperatures have also been at a high of two degrees settling at 29.4 degrees.
For a coastal station, heatwave is automatically declared when the maximum crosses the 40-degree mark. Thus, Chennai does fall in that category.
However, good news does await the residents of Chennai as rain gods have decided to bring at least moments of happiness in the form of rain and thundershowers over Chennai and its adjoining areas.
The intensity of these rains and thundershowers are likely to be on the lower side, but parched Chennai does need at least some rainfall.

Currently, a trough is running from the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh region up to the South Coastal Tamil Nadu region along the east coast. With this, light rain and thundershowers are expected over Chennai during the late afternoon and evening hours today.
While heatwave conditions may abate from the city with maximums dropping by about a notch or even less over the city, humidity and discomfort will continue to bother the residents of the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
