Finally, the day has come when rains will soon start drenching the Chennai city. According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions have become conducive for the rain and thundershowers that may commence by Saturday evening.

At present, also, the state capital is partly cloudy sky. In fact, moderate to heavy rains have already lashed adjoining areas of Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Puducherry.

The approaching rainy spell can be attributed to the trough running along Coastal Tamil Nadu. Due to this, intensity of rains will be more over southern parts of the state, while the northern areas will record light showers.

Initially, Chennai will record isolated rains, that will intensify during the next 24 hours. Rains are likely to continue for another 2-3 days.

These rains will also put an end to the prolonged dry spell over the city. The city has remained practically dry during the last two months. In fact, in February, not even a mm of rainfall was observed over the city. This has led to hot and humid weather.

Now, with these rains, maximum temperatures will take a dip ushering in huge relief from scorching weather. Meanwhile, with increase in humidity, minimum temperatures will increase and may settle above normal.
