Otherwise, the city has remained warm and humid throughout June. Usually also, Chennai because of lying in the rain shadow area receives very little rain during this time.

The total monthly rains for June in Chennai stand at 55.8 mm which has already been surpassed in June when the capital city of Tamil Nadu recorded 59 mm of rains resulting in more than normal rainfall.

Come July and light rainfall activity may make an appearance over the city of Chennai. While the weather will remain warm and humid over the city, short spells of light rains may occur over the south Indian city.

These upcoming light rains will be attributed to a trough which is extending along the East Coast. In fact, the axis of Monsoon trough has also shifted northwards, over the foothills of Himalayas. Thus, Chennai will see light rainfall activity for the next two to three days.

Talking about the temperatures here, maximum temperatures will settle between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius while minimums will be around 27 and 28 degrees during the same time frame.
