As had been forecast by Skymet, rains have reduced over Chennai during the last 24 hours. As per the recorded data, during the last 21 hours, Minnambakkam observatory of Chennai recorded 2 mm of rains while Nungambakkam Observatory recorded 5 mm rains.
As a matter of fact, it was raining heavily over Chennai for the last few days. Just a day before yesterday, Nungambakkam observatory had recorded 102 mm of rains which was the first 3-digit rain of the season for Chennai. Now, the total accumulative rainfall for Nungambakkam stands at 147 mm till now.
During the last 24 hours rains have reduced significantly over other parts of Tamil Nadu as well. This is due to the formation of a Low Pressure Area over East-central Arabian Sea. So, the moisture concentration is more around the system rather on the Eastern Peninsula. When this Low Pressure Area will degenerate, another Low Pressure Area is expected to develop in Southwest Bay of Bengal, bringing rains over Tamil Nadu around October 22.
Looking at the forecast, we do not expect any heavy rains to reappear or occur over Chennai and adjoining areas for at least the next two to three days. This is when we expect only some light isolated rains over Chennai and adjoining areas including coastal Tamil Nadu.
Rains will increase once again over Chennai and adjoining areas from October 22 onward. Thereafter, Chennai may receive moderate to heavy spells once again.
