Weather of Chennai has remained mostly dry since the beginning of January. Though, light rainy spells were observed by the state capital on the very first day of the month. Thereafter, rain remained absent over the city.
At present, Chennai is observing pleasant weather conditions, particularly during the day though nights are comparatively warmer. Mercury has been settling above average. During the last 24 hours, Chennai witnessed lows of 25.7°C which is five degrees above the normal.
However, now, it seems that rain gods are bequeathing some sympathy on the Chennaities thereby eliminating the elongated dry spells. Hence, scattered rains and thundershowers are expected to lash the city by today late night or early morning tomorrow.
In fact, people in the city have been witnessing cloudy weather from last night and clouding is likely to increase over parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai by tonight. Few rain traces have also been observed over parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
The reason for these showers can be attributed to a trough of low that persists over Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Comorin coast. Furthermore, due to this, the easterly waves are also likely to get activated which will lead to increase in clouding.
Isolated pockets of the city are expected to witness rains until January 28. Moreover, temperatures are also expected to fall by 2-3°C.
