Chennai rains have remained far and few for quite some time now. While heavy to very heavy rainfall was witnessed over the capital city of Tamil Nadu, weather went dry once the new year began. Only a few traces of rains were recorded on the first day of the year.

At present, the city is witnessing pleasant weather conditions during the day. However, the nights are warmer than usual as the temperatures are settling at 24.9 degrees which happens to be four degrees above the normal levels.

Until now, Chennai has not recorded any significant rain. However, rain gods are all set to bestow some kindness on the Chennaites. Tomorrow onward, some rainfall activity is expected over Chennai and adjoining areas. In fact, coastal areas of Tamil Nadu are expected to witness some rains. These rains are expected to be light and scattered in nature.

These weather conditions will be attributed to the presence of a trough of low over Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka Coast. Due to this system, the easterly wave is also likely to be activated. Not only will increase moisture over the region but clouding will also increase. Thus, weather conditions will become favourable for some rainfall activity over the region.

At present, parts of the city are already witnessing low and medium clouds. Isolated rainfall activity may occur today as well.
