As the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal moved northwards, Chennai rains eased up in last few hours bringing respite from the continuous heavy downpour witnessed by the capital city of Tamil Nadu during the last three days.

Sparing Tamil Nadu, the deep depression over Bay of Bengal has moved to Andhra Pradesh coast and has intensified into a cyclonic storm Roanu.

Though threat of heavy rain over Chennai has abated as the weather system is gradually moving upwards, coastal parts of Tamil Nadu will continue to receive light to moderate rain in the next couple of hours.

Chennai has received heavy rain during the last couple of days owing to the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal and it shattered several rainfall records during the period.

During last 24 hours, Chennai has received around 50 mm of rain and light rain is expected today as well.

Chennai had been under flood threat during last two days as the depression in the Bay of Bengal continued to move closer to the city. Residents were reeling under the fear of flash flood and replay of 2015 floods. However, the worst is over and weather is expected to get back to normalcy in a day or two.
