The month-long dry spell prevailing in Chennai got eradicated when some light rains as predicted by Skymet Weather occurred over the city. In fact, Northeast Monsoon has remained weak throughout the month for Chennai and the month of December has so far remained dry with the only good spells occurring on the very first day of the month.
Since then the Chennai along with parts of Tamil Nadu are reeling under dry weather conditions. Usually, the city records 177.4 mm of rainfall during the month of December though the city has just managed to record 65.1 mm of rains until now with 0.1 mm of rains being recorded in the last 24 hours.
Along with Chennai, some southern stations of the state also recorded some light to moderate spells during the similar time frame.

As per Skymet Weather, the rains occurred over Chennai due to the strong winds from the northeast are blowing over the coastal stations of the state. Moreover, a trough is also persisting from the southeast Bay of Bengal to southwest Bay of Bengal.
Hence, Chennai is likely to continue receiving light rains for the day. Thereafter, the weather is likely to become dry. The next rainy spell for Chennai is expected to occur by December 26 and 27 when Chennai city is expected to get widespread light to moderate showers.
