A fresh spell of pre-Monsoon rains and thundershowers have begun over Chennai. Rain bearing clouds have been hovering over the city since early morning hours, with rains finally making an appearance around 10:30 am.
At present also, several areas are reporting light rains and thundershowers. Weathermen predict this spell to continue for the next one to two hours. Thereafter, weather will clear up for a while but with large amount of moisture hanging in the atmosphere, the weather conditions will remain conducive for another spell of rain during the latter part of the day.
Not only Chennai, several parts of Interior Tamil Nadu are likely to record good showers during the next 24 hours.
According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over South Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas. Moreover, the trough continues to persist from North Interior Karnataka to Interior Tamil Nadu.
In wake of these systems, many parts of Interior Tamil Nadu will record good rains but coastal areas, particularly north coastal parts may receive only short spell of rain and thunderstorm.
Places such as Cuddalore, Nilgiri, Salem, Madurai, Dharmapuri, Chennai and Kodaikanal are likely to record pre-Monsoon activities during the next 24 hours.
