Chennai rains begin as Monsoon inches closer

Chennai weather had become cruel enough for the residents. So much so that intense heatwave had taken a toll on Chennaiites. The maximum temperature had crossed the 40-degree mark as well.

However, weather gods have finally displayed some kind of kindness over the residents of Chennai and light rains have begun over the capital city of Tamil Nadu since yesterday.

In fact, isolated rain and thundershowers have made an appearance today as well. Presently, Chennai is witnessing moderate rains with gusty winds. After a long time, good rainfall has visited the city which does not receive very heavy rains during the months of May and June.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is over Andhra Pradesh and a trough is extending up to Southwest Bay of Bengal and Tamil Nadu coast. Thus, we expect that rains will pick up pace tomorrow onward. Light to moderate showers may occur in some parts of the city. Not only this, the possibility of a few sharp spells of rains cannot be ruled out.
