Chennai rains begin as Cyclone Vardah gets closer

Chennai rains have finally begun and many areas have started to receive heavy showers as Cyclone Vardah approaches. The city has remained dry for quite some time now and several parts of the capital city of Tamil Nadu have been receiving rains.

The very severe cyclonic storm is currently lying around 180 km east of the city of Chennai. A series of rainy spells is approaching the capital city of Tamil Nadu and residents have been advised to stay indoors as the saga has just begln and showers will get heftier as Vardah will near the coast.

Several advisories have been issued including the residents being asked to charge their mobile phones fully and not go near the coast at all. As per reports, schools and colleges will remain closed in view of the cyclone.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, during the time of landfall which is likely during the next few hours, Chennai will receive very heavy spells of rain. Not only this, the wind speed will also increase up to 100 kmph.

High alert has been sounded in both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. As per media reports, Anna University exams have also been postponed. During the next few hours, expect heavy to very heavy rains.
