Chennai rains all set to revive

November 29, 2016 10:39 AM |

Chennai rainsBringing dry spell to an end, Chennai rains are all set to return. All thanks to the fresh weather system brewing in Bay of Bengal.

The system can be presently seen as a well-marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify into a depression any time soon and will be moving in west-northwest direction towards Tamil Nadu coast.

In wake of this, sky has already become cloudy. According to Skymet Weather, rain and thundershowers will start making an appearance over the city from Wednesday evening but intensity will be light in nature.

By December 1, rain activity will intensify significantly and many areas of Tamil Nadu including Chennai will start recording good showers. Weathermen predict fairly widespread moderate to heavy showers to occur over the entire state till December 2.

Last year, during this time Chennai had recorded one of the worst floods as the city recorded extremely heavy rains.

Though the origin of the present weather system is also in Southeast Bay of Bengal, as in the case last year, but this system is not as intense as it was in 2015.

Hence, flooding is ruled out as of now but some areas may face problem of water logging. Chennai has been highly rain deficit in November, which also happens to be the rainiest month for the city.

So far, the state capital recorded mere 50. 2 mm of rain as compared to the mammoth monthly average rainfall of 407 mm.
Now, with these rains in offing, we expect the deficiency to improve up to some extent but November will end on the deficit note.
