Chennai rains have been lashing the capital city for quite some time now. The last 24 hours have been quite rainy for the city of Chennai and a whopping 183 mm of showers have been recorded. Not only this, due to these hefty showers, localized flooding has also been observed in many parts of the city leaving Chennai in a crippled state.

Schools and colleges have been closed for the fourth consecutive day. Not only this, IT companies have also been asked to declare a holiday and tell their employees to work from home.
The reason for the non-stop rainfall over the capital city of Tamil Nadu can be attributed to the low-pressure area which is over Sri Lanka and adjoining Coast. This system is expected to persist over the area and weaken gradually.
As per weathermen, heavy rainfall is expected to continue over Chennai and its adjoining areas for at least two to three days.

November 3: Light intermittent rains are likely to continue over the city of Chennai and overcast sky conditions are expected throughout the day. Rains will intensify towards late afternoon hours and moderate to heavy showers are likely during the night. These downpours are expected to continue until the morning hours.
November 4: Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue during the morning hours and will witness a reduction during the afternoon. Light to moderate intermittent rain is expected thereafter. During the night, the intensity of rainfall is expected to remain light.

November 5: Heavy showers are expected to take a slight break as morning and afternoon will be slightly better in terms of rain. However, evening onward, rainfall activity is expected to pick up pace. Thus, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to occur during the night and will continue until morning.
November 6: No breaks in rains are expected over the city of Chennai during this day. Thus, moderate to heavy rainfall activity will occur over the city throughout the day. The night will also not provide much relief and showers will continue until the morning hours.
