Chennai is all set to receive fresh Monsoon rains during the next couple of days. According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions have become favourable over the city for the rainy spell.
A trough is extending from East Uttar Pradesh up to North Tamil Nadu across Telangana and Rayalaseema. The cyclonic circulation also continues to prevail over east-central Bay of Bengal, which is likely to further enhance the rain activity.
In wake of this, the state capital has already recorded very light rains on Tuesday. As we progress further, rains are likely to intensify now onwards and we can expect mainly light to moderate during the next 48 hours.
At present also, the city is witnessing partly cloudy to cloudy sky. According to weathermen, a spell of light rains is expected towards the late afternoon hours or evening hours.
Chennai has already recorded more than normal rainfall in September. Till now, the city has recorded 216 mm of rain, surpassing its monthly average rains of 137.3 mm. All thanks to the formation of back to back Monsoon systems in Bay of Bengal.
Now as we enter into October, intensity of rains will increase significantly. This will also mark the onset of Northeast Monsoon, which spans from October to December. It is also the rainiest season for entire state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, wherein it records more than 40% of its annual rainfall.
