March 23, 2018 10:58 AM |

Summers in ChennaiHot and sultry weather has gripped Chennai quite hard. On Thursday, the city recorded maximum temperature at whopping 37.6°C, which is not only the highest of the season but is also the second highest maximum in last decade.

The temperature is also above five degrees above the normal average temperature of 32.9°C. Being a coastal station, the feel like effect is much more than the actual temperature.

Chennai narrowly escaped the record as the highest temperature in last 10 years stands at 37.7°C that was recorded on March 10, 2011.

Moreover, with no changes likely in prevailing weather conditions, we expect Chennai to soon surpass this record as well.
According to Skymet Weather, Chennai has been witnessing dry and humid weather conditions in absence of any significant weather system. Moving further, we do not foresee formation of any weather system over or near the region. Thus, weather would continue to be dry and hot, with temperatures settling above the normal mean.

With no relief in offing, residents would now have gear up for some intense heat.

February and March are the least rainy months for Chennai, with the normal average rainfall of 3.4 mm and 3.5 mm, respectively. With the beginning of April, these pre-Monsoon rains would also increase gradually.
