July 3, 2015 12:01 PM |

More rain in the offing for ChattisgarhAt present, Monsoon is in its weak phase. Most parts of Northwest, Central and Southern India have received subdued rainfall activity during the last one week. The past one week has been the weakest phase of Monsoon till now. However, presently parts of East India, as well as a few places in Central India have been receiving sufficient amount of rain.

Starting from June 1, till July 2 Chhattisgarh has received 273 mm of rain against the monthly average of 204 mm. This rainfall amount was in surplus for the state by 34%. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rain is expected to continue over many parts of the state in the coming week as well.

A cyclonic circulation which is over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal is most likely to intensify into a low pressure area and will further move in the westerly and the north-westerly direction.

Light to moderate rainfall will continue over Chhattisgarh till July 6 due to the westerly movement of this low pressure area and a formation of a trough from Punjab to North Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas from July 6 to July 10 and 11.

Good amount of rain in these areas will help in increasing the rainfall surplus percentage over Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha area. This will also help in the growth of the Kharif crops that have already been sowed and the sowing of the others.
