Chandigarh records nil visibility, Lucknow, Gaya too witness very dense fog

Fog in IndiaSeveral parts of northern and eastern plains continued to be under the grip of dense to very dense fog. Chandigarh witnessed very dense fog as visibility dropped to nil on Saturday morning. This was followed by Gaya, Lucknow and Agartala that too witnessed low visibility of mere 50 meters.

Situation was no better in Amritsar, Guwahati, Dehradun which witnessed dense fog with the visibility of 100 meters to 150 meters.

Delhi saw some relief from fog over most parts but Palam and Safdarjung Observatory could not escape the dense fog. Palam reported visibility of 200 meters, while Safdarjung observed visibility of 150 meters. Meanwhile, rest parts of the national capital witnessed shallow fog.

Varanasi also witnessed moderate fog with visibility of 250 meters.

With this, hundreds of trains have been either rescheduled or running behind the schedule. At present, around 109 trains have been delayed and few have been cancelled.

Air traffic has also been hit hard. Several flights have been delayed at the Chandigarh and Varanasi airport, while Gorakhpur, Patna and Ranchi reported minor delays.

At Delhi, 17 flights were delayed out of which 13 were departure flights and four arrivals. Meanhwhile, one flight was cancelled.

Further, we expect intensity of fog to reduce over northern plains but few areas will still witness dense fog. Meanwhile, eastern parts of the country, especially, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will continue to report dense to very dense fog.
