The northern and the eastern parts of Punjab, lying along the foothills of the Himalayas have been observing rain and thundershower activities for quite some time now. And during the last 24 hours, places such as Chandigarh, Patiala, Ludhiana, and Amritsar have received light to moderate rain and thundershowers. However, the other parts of the state remained absolutely dry and warm, along with windy conditions.
At present, a Western Disturbance is moving across the higher latitudes, i.e. across North of Jammu and Kashmir. This system has also induced a Cyclonic Circulation over the north-central parts of Punjab. Simultaneously, a Trough is extending from Punjab up to Nagaland across the foothills of the Himalayas. In the wake of these systems, light to moderate rains will continue over the northern and eastern parts of Punjab for the next 48 hours.
Places like Chandigarh, Panchkula, Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Roopnagar are likely to get rainfall activities for the next two days. On the other hand, other places like Bhatinda, Ferozpur, Faridkot, and Moga will remain mainly dry and warm along with windy conditions.
Moreover, another Western Disturbance is lying over Afghanistan and the adjoining region. This system is moving east/northeastwards. Due to this system, along with the present Trough, the rainfall activities would increase over Punjab and adjoining Haryana after 48 hours. Thus, we expect the northern limit of Monsoon may advance into some more parts of Punjab by July 17.
