Some localized and patchy rains have also resulted in some rains. During the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Sunday, Karnal recorded 21 mm of rain, Patiala 11 mm, Amritsar 5 mm and Rohtak 2 mm. As per Skymet Weather, both the states are rain deficit by 10 percent as on July 30.
At present, the axis of Monsoon trough has shifted towards north, in proximity of the North Indian plains. Therefore, scattered rain has already occurred over Punjab and few places over Haryana. Now, we expect that rains will further increase and will cover more parts of these states during the next two to three days. On and off light rains will continue over Punjab and Haryana till August 2.

Thereafter, the axis of Monsoon trough will shift further North over the foothills of Himalayas, therefore, rains will once again reduce over most parts of Punjab. However, the northern districts including Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Nawabshahar, Chandigarh, Yamunanagar, Sonepat will receive on and off scattered rains.
It is anticipated that during the next three to four days, rain deficiency over both the states will reduce and may come near normal. Presently, the weather is warm and humid which is likely to become comfortable due to rain and persistent clouding.
