The first half of May sees good Pre-Monsoon rains over the plains of North India which includes the state of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as Delhi and the NCR region. North Madhya Pradesh also receives some rainfall activity during this period.

This Pre-Monsoon season, a total of three spells were seen during the fortnight. The first and the last one was quite severe in terms of intensity wherein several casualties were seen as well.

These weather activities occurred over the northern plains of the country on account of a series of Western Disturbances along with its induced cyclonic circulations. Rise in temperatures were an added trigger for the region.

Now, the plains of North India will see a gradual decline in these weather activities. However, Western Disturbances will keep approaching over the Western Himalayan region giving rains over the hilly states of India along with the foothills of North India including Punjab and Haryana.

The present Western Disturbance is clearing away and the second one is expected to make an appearance over the hilly regions tomorrow. This system will be followed by another system which will result in the continuation of weather activities over Northern hills.

Thus, during the next 48 hours, the effect of these Western Disturbances will be seen along the foothills of Punjab and Haryana as well. Thus, cities of Jalandhar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur will witness thunderstorm activities as temperatures will be on a rise over these areas.

In Rajasthan, temperatures will witness a rise due to which isolated thunderstorm and dust storm activities may occur over some parts. Delhi will be warm and humid as winds will remain southeasterly in nature. Thus, temperatures will remain under the 40-degree mark today as well.

After 48 hours, dry weather will persist over entire plains of North India along with a rise in temperatures.

Thus, heatwave conditions will be seen over Rajasthan with maximums being around the mid-40s. Delhi will see a gradual rise in temperatures tomorrow onward and may settle around 40-degrees. Isolated weather activity is expected during the second half of the week.
