After experiencing a few dry days, both the state of Punjab and Haryana are gearing up for getting some good Monsoon showers today. However, both the states got to witness some light with isolated heavy rain activity on the last day as well.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Ambala recorded 73.6 mm of rains, Anandpur Sahib 34.6 mm, and Amritsar witnessed 3.2 mm of light Monsoon showers.

Until now, despite the arrival of Southwest Monsoon over the region, rains have mainly remained on the lower side especially in the month of July. However, the month of June has kept the rainfall performance of the state on the better side.

The seasonal rainfall, spanning from June 1 until July 10, Haryana is 1% ran deficient, which is considered to be normal. On the other hand, Punjab is rain surplus by 40%.

In the wake of this, we expect scattered rains to commence over parts of Haryana and Punjab today that is expected to continue tomorrow as well. However, by July 12, the intensity and spread of these rains are likely to increase. Thereafter, on and off rains are likely to continue over both the states for at least the next three to four days.

In fact, rain and thundershowers with strong winds gusting at a speed of 40-60 kmph are expected over Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mansa, Moga, Patiala, Rupnagar, Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal, Jind, Faridabad, Narnaul and Rohtak and Tarn Taran today.

However, the intensity of these rains would be slightly lesser over West Punjab and Haryana.

These rains would further result in dipping the temperatures by three to four degrees and hence, the weather would remain comfortable over both the states, bringing in the much anticipated and needed relief.
