Chances of thunder in northwest India; Mumbai to receive good rain

September 16, 2013 2:50 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Chances of rain with thunder remain over northwest region of the country during the next two days. The moisture from easterly winds and the 'above normal' temperatures in the region may again culminate into thunder storms like the one experienced in several parts  yesterday. However the eastward movement of the Western Disturbance will reduce rain over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in this period.

Rain will continue to occur on both sides of Peninsular India as the east-west wind shear zone persists along the 15 degrees latitude. Northerly to northwesterly winds from north and southerly to southwesterly from south India will keep the trough alive during the next two days.

Along the east coast, rain will occur over south Orissa to north Tamil Nadu coast across entire Andhra Pradesh and Vidarbha. Rain will be light to moderate. Interiors of south Peninsula like Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Karnataka will have light to moderate rain at a few places during the period.

Due to this weather system, Mumbai will also receive good rain. In the west, rain will occur from Konkan to Kerala coast as a trough (region of intensified moist winds) extends between them. Rain could be moderate at many places in Kerala and Karnataka coast.

In eastern India, east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal will remain mainly dry but thunder with rain post afternoon could not be ruled out at one or two places owing to the availability of moisture and above average temperatures.

Same weather conditions are expected to prevail over northeast region. Southern parts like Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram could have light to moderate rain as they may come under the influence of a cyclonic circulation in the north Bay of Bengal near Myanmar.
