Thunderstorm activities in Punjab and Haryana are being observed very often these days. On Tuesday too the region witnessed thunderstorm accompanied with rain. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the winds had moderate intensity speed and were not damaging.

Currently there is a cyclonic circulation in north Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab. There’s also a trough extending up to Delhi-NCR due to which the winds have changed from hot westerlies to cool southeasterlies. And wherever a trough divides between opposing winds the area becomes prone to thunderstorm activity.

According to skymet, this situation still prevails in the region, raising chances of more thunderstorms in next 2-3 days. These thunderstorms usually occur during the second half of the day.

The weather has led to drop in day and night temperatures in the region. For instance, Pathankot in Punjab saw the day temperature settle at 34.6°C, Jalandhar 35.5°C and Patiala 36.2°C. Karnal in Haryana recorded the day temperature at 36.4°C, while Hisar saw the temperature settle at 37.5°C. The mid-thirties temperature has been sustaining for a few days in the region due to frequent thundershowers and thunderstorms. And with forecast of the weather sustaining for a couple of days more, the temperatures will remain under check.
