Break monsoon and dry weather may make situation worse for Rajasthan farmers

August 11, 2021 2:20 PM |

Monsoon over Northwest India is now in break phase. Axis of monsoon trough has shifted to foothills of Himalayas. Dry and warm westerly winds are blowing across Northwest India including most parts of Rajasthan. This may further aggravate the misery of farmers in western parts of Rajasthan which is already reeling under draught like situation.

On the other hand, eastern districts of Rajasthan were flooded due to incessant heavy rains. Worst affected districts in Eastern parts of Rajasthan are Kota, Baran, Dholpur, Karauli, Bhilwara, Sawai Madhopur, Bundi and Jhalawar.

Western parts of Rajasthan have not received any significant the rain since last many days. Reason being the low-pressure areas which developed over Bay of Bengal have travelled up to Western parts of Madhya Pradesh and have given heavy downpour over west Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Its impact was negligible over Western districts.

West Rajasthan was not supported by either western disturbance or south westerly humid winds from Arabian Sea. Dry winds continued over western district from Pakistan. We do not expect rain activities to resume over Rajasthan for at least next seven to eight days.

This time entire Rajasthan is expected to go dry. Eastern districts have received their share of rainfall. Crops in western parts of Rajasthan are on the verge of collapse. And this upcoming dry spell will further add to the misery of farmers.
