The hills of North India have had a blockbuster beginning of the year 2019 as far as weather conditions are concerned. A bumper series of rain and snow have been observed over all the three states inclusive of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
In fact, since the first day of the year, the North Indian hills have been seeing some weather activity in terms of rain and snow. In fact, around January 6, heavy rain and snow were observed over the hills which not only wreaked havoc over the normal lives of people but also triggered avalanches over the higher reaches.
Now, there has been a slight break in the last couple of days with rain and snow being observed on the lower side.
However, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas today, during the late afternoon hours. This system will be an active one and is likely to affect mainly on January 11 and 12. In fact, scattered rain and snow will begin over Jammu and Kashmir today itself. Thereafter, rain and snow will cover the states of Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttarakhand will also start receiving rain and snowfall.
In fact, on January 11 and 12, weather activity will be intense, heavy rain and snow over many pockets of the hills of North India are also quite likely. Hilly resorts long with cities of Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Srinagar, Shimla, Manali, Nainital, Mussoorie, Narkanda, Kufri, Katra, and several others are likely to see some rain and snow.
Heavy snow and rain might result in some disruption to the normal lives of people. Along with this, higher reaches are also prone to the occurrences of avalanches. Weather will start to clear up Jan 13 onward.
Thus, another weekend for tourists goes down the drain as it is advisable for wayfarers to stay far away from the hills to avoid any inconveniences.
