Delhi woke up to a foggy morning today. Apart from the dense fog, people could feel the chill returning back after a day of partial sunshine in the city yesterday. The difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi-NCR narrowed down further as the Safdarjung Observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2°C, while the Palam Observatory saw the temperature settle at 5.4°C. This is the season’s lowest minimum temperature recorded in the national capital Delhi so far. It is also the lowest minimum the city has recorded in December in the last 6 years.
As far as the day temperature is concerned the maximum in Delhi had settled at 12.2°C on Tuesday. On Wednesday the day temperature, however, settled a couple of notches higher at 18°C due to clear weather and mild sunshine. The difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures have narrowed down to a large extent due to which you are feeling the winter chill even more. This condition is going to prevail in Delhi and its adjoining areas like Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad for the next few days.
Meanwhile, the Palam area including the airport saw the visibility level drop below 100 m early morning today due to dense fog. Several flights were affected due to low visibility.
The Air Quality Index has also worsened from the previous day by dropping to a ‘Poor’ category from ‘Moderate’.
Looking at the forecast, our meteorologists signal similar conditions in the city tomorrow as well. Foggy conditions are likely to prevail in Delhi-NCR and the temperatures are set to drop further.
In the adjoining state of Uttar Pradesh, all schools have been shut till December 20, in view of the extremely cold weather conditions.
