The cold weather in past few days in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi had undoubtedly given a shock after how warm December was. After a long wait, several places in Punjab and Haryana were enjoying the winter chill and foggy mornings. With minimum temperature settling below 5°C and maximum temperature settling way below than the normal, chilly nights and biting cold during the day had marked the quintessential winter season in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Karnal.
Due to low temperature, Amritsar, Narnaul, Karnal and Ludhiana also featured repeatedly in Skymet Weather’s list of 10 coldest places in plains of North India.
However, as a fresh Western Disturbance approaches the hills of North India, things are likely to change in next few days. While the weather system will give rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, it is expected to influence the weather in plains of North India.
The minimum temperatures are expected to register a steady but marginal rise over Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. The day temperature will also witness a marginal increase of 1-2 degrees but will continue to remain below than the normal.
