After lashing parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh since Wednesday, the Western Disturbance and cyclonic circulation have moved further towards northeast and have bathed parts of Northeast India while continuing to give light rain over parts of Bihar and Jharkhand.
The weather system that gave rain over Delhi and other parts of North India was expected to move towards Northeast India in last 24 hours, as per Skymet Meteorology Division in India.
It is for the second consecutive day that parts of Bihar and Jharkhand have received light rainfall. For instance, Daltonganj in Jharkhand has received 20 mm of rainfall in last 24 hours. Together with 34 mm of rainfall received on Wednesday, the city has surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 16.1 mm with 54 mm of rain received so far in this month. It is also the highest rainfall amount in last ten years. The all-time highest rainfall for the city has been 76.6 mm received in 1986.
Other parts in Jharkhand to receive rain in last 24 hours are Jamshedpur 0.2 mm and Ranchi 1 mm of rain.
Adjoining Bihar has also observed light rain. In last 24 hours, the state capital Patna has received 0.2 mm of rain. Some other places in the state to have received rain are Gaya and Purnea where 0.1 mm and 1.6 mm of rain was recorded, respectively.
Apart from these states, the rain belt also covered parts of Northeast India in last 24 hours that include Shillong with 3.7 mm, Guwahati with 1 mm and Cherrapunji with 1.2 mm of rain.
The average rainfall in Bihar and Jharkhand for the month of January is 12 mm. January is the month when only light rain is observed in these parts.
As the system now moves away, rainfall is expected to stop in next 24 hours followed by possible shallow fog and a marginal rise in minimum temperature.
