Updated on April 6 at 2:05 pm: Short but good spell of rain in Bihar and Jharkhand to continue

Light rainfall activity was being observed in Bihar and eastern parts of Jharkhand like Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Dhanbad till yesterday. The intensity of this spell has now increased and become a little widespread with several places in Northeast Bihar like Katihar, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea and Bhagalpur receiving short but good spell of rain.

The weather activity will continue for another 48 hours (Till April 8), reducing in intensity thereafter. Some places in the region are expected to observe squalls and lightning during this period.

A trough is extending from Northwest India up to West Bengal across East Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand which is the reason for short and strong bouts of rain in the region.

These rains have come as a huge relief to the people reeling under intense heat. According to the temperature data available with Skymet, the maximum in the region has come down by 3-4 degrees. The night temperature is also expected to drop by a couple of notches.

Updated on April 5 at 9:00 am: Lightning strikes, pre-Monsoon rains to lash Bihar and Jharkhand soon

Isolated light rain is expected over eastern parts of Bihar and Jharkhand today. The reason for these rains is the formation of a Confluence Zone from South Bihar to Gangetic West Bengal. The dry winds from Northwest are merging with southeasterly humid winds from Bay of Bengal over the area.

Tomorrow onward, the rain intensity is expected to increase i.e. on April 6, 7 and 8. In the next three days, we expect light to moderate rain and thundershower activities to continue over many parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. Few lightning strikes are also possible during that time, accompanied with strong winds and thunderstorm activities.

Weather Alert for Jharkhand

Rain and thundershower at some places accompanied with isolated squall and lightning to occur over Bokaro, Chatra, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Jamtara, Khunti, Kodarma, Latehar, Lohardaga, Pakur, Pashchimi Singhbhum, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Sahibganj and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand during the next 6 hours

The confluence zone will persist until April 7. The high intensity activities will remain confined to eastern parts of both the states. However, western parts will also receive scattered light to moderate rain activities up to April 8.

On April 8, a Cyclonic Circulation is expected to form over eastern parts of Bihar leading to increase in rain intensity. But after April 8, this weather system will fade away as well, leading to decrease in the rain intensity. During that time, we expect the temperatures to fall by 3 to 4 degree Celsius over both the states.
