Bihar and Jharkhand have been receiving good rains for the last many days. Therefore, rain deficiency in Bihar has come down to 12%. On the other hand, Jharkhand received normal rains so far.

Bihar was the most rain deficient state in East India till about August. Successive weather systems developed over Northwest Bay of Bengal, which affected Bihar and Jharkhand due to their westerly movements.

Now a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha region. Moreover, the axis of the Monsoon trough is passing through East Bihar and Jharkhand. The combined effect of these weather systems will bring good widespread rains over the two states.

In fact rains have already started over the region. Several places in Bihar received good rains during last 24 hours. Motihari recorded 51 mm of rainfall, Purnea 11.6 mm, Supaul 10.2 mm and Gaya 5.8 mm.

In Jharkhand, Bokaro received 74.6 mm of rainfall and Ranchi 24.6 mm.

Moderate to light rains, with one or two places receiving heavy showers, are likely during next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rainfall will decrease as the low pressure area will move towards Central India. The concentration of rainfall will be more over Maharashtra.
