Southwest Monsoon has been much better for the state of Gujarat as compared to last year. Several areas including Rajkot that only received single digit rain in August in 2015 have already surpasses their monthly rains this year.

Another such region is Bhuj. Rain gods have been very kind to this city during the first few days of August as Bhuj has been receiving good rains for quite some time now. So much so that the city has received moderate to heavy rains during this period.

The last 24 hours have been spectacular for Bhuj. During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, the city has received a whopping 57 mm of rain which is quite good for this region. With this the city has also surpassed its monthly rains in less than eight days.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over South Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan and Kutch region. Also, the off shore trough extends from Gujarat Coast to Goa Coast enhancing the rainfall activity.

So far, Bhuj has recorded more than 120 mm of rainfall against its monthly average rains of 99.7 mm. Last year the city had recorded a mere 1.3 mm of rainfall during the entire month of August. The next 24 hours will also see some rains over the city and its adjoining areas.
