Odisha was lashed by pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers on Wednesday. Fairly widespread rainfall has occurred over North Odisha, while one or two places over South Odisha received light rains. Gopalpur in Odisha received 20.8 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours. Many places in the Bhadrak district recorded heavy rainfall.
Now, the rain intensity and spread will decrease over the state. But, scattered light to moderate showers will continue over interiors of Odisha as a trough is expected to develop from Bihar to Telangana across Jharkhand and western parts of Odisha. Places going dry for now will see a rise in temperatures.
On Thursday afternoon, Skymet Weather tweeted:
#Odisha: #Rain is likely over Gajapati, #Jharsuguda, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and #Sundergarh, during the next 4 hours.

The low-pressure area, which is likely to develop over South Bay of Bengal, will intensify and move in a northwesterly direction. By May 18, we expect this weather system to induce rainfall activities over coastal stations and some parts of interiors of Odisha.
Thereafter, temperatures will decrease by 4 to 5 degree Celsius over many coastal districts. High-velocity winds will be blowing over the region and the sea will turn very rough. Till then weather will remain mainly dry in Odisha. However, we cannot rule out isolated on and off pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers.
