Light drizzle commenced over Bengaluru around 02:30 am today on April 29th. There was a gradual increase in rain intensity and by morning many parts of the city started receiving intense thundershower activities leading to waterlogging in many places. This was the fourth heavy spell over the city in the month of April. Earlier on April 7, 10, and 24, the city has received heavy thundershower activities.

Until now Bengaluru has received 117 mm rain against the monthly average of 40.5 mm. Almost three times the monthly average. In the month of April pre-monsoon activities have increased over South Peninsula due to the persistence of a north-south trough extending from the Central part of the country to south Tamil Nadu across interior Karnataka. Moisture feed is also available from the Bay of Bengal as well as the Arabian Sea. Bengaluru may continue to get one or two good spells of rain until tomorrow. Thereafter also the weather will not go completely dry, isolated pockets of the city may continue to get short spells of light rain.

As we know that pre-monsoon activity is not continuous, that is why almost 24 days of April went dry over Bengaluru. The average temperature in the month of April remained above normal over the city. Pre-monsoon rains are usually intense as these rains occur by cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds are capable of giving strong winds, lightning, and hail. Rains during monsoon season for widespread and for a longer duration, which helps in lowering the temperature.
