Light rains over Bengaluru likely to continue

Bengaluru rains were quiet for the past two weeks. In fact, the last time the city recorded rains was on November 16 though the rains were not heavy rather were some traces. However, as already predicted by Skymet Weather, finally, some rains showed up in Bengaluru the last day.

All thanks to Cyclone Ockhi that the city got to record rains to the tune of 11 mm in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Thursday, thereby breaking the monotonous and elongated dry spell, the city was reeling under.

Along with Bengaluru, other districts of South Interior Karnataka and South Coastal Karnataka also recorded some showers. During the aforesaid time frame, Dharmapuri recorded 13 mm of rains, Mandya 7 mm and Mangaluru recorded 3 mm of rains. However, the north coastal stations of the state remained mainly dry.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now, Cyclone Ockhi has further intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and is presently moving in a west-northwest direction with a speed of about 17 kmph. At present, the system is centered around 90 km north-northeast of Minicoy and 270 km south-southeast of Amini Divi in Lakshadweep.

As the cyclone is moving away in the Southeast Arabian Sea, now the rainfall activity over South Interior Karnataka including Bengaluru is likely to reduce. However, as moderate winds that are feeding in moisture over the region are still prevailing, light to moderate rains are expected to continue over Bengaluru and parts of South Interior and South Coastal Karnataka until December 2.

On the other hand, the Northern Coastal stations of the state may continue to reel under dry weather conditions. Thereafter, the weather will become dry. Though sky will remain partly cloudy to cloudy. Though this time too heavy rains are likely to stay away from the city.
